Local algorithms in (weakly) coloured graphs

چکیده
A local algorithm is a distributed algorithm that completes after a constant number of synchronous communication rounds. We present local approximation algorithms for the minimum dominating set problem and the maximum matching problem in 2-coloured and weakly 2-coloured graphs. In a weakly 2-coloured graph, both problems admit a local algorithm with the approximation factor (∆ + 1)/2, where ∆ is the maximum degree of the graph. We also give a matching lower bound proving that there is no local algorithm with a better approximation factor for either of these problems. Furthermore, we show that the stronger assumption of a 2-colouring does not help in the case of the dominating set problem, but there is a local approximation scheme for the maximum matching problem in 2-coloured graphs.

Properly coloured copies and rainbow copies of large graphs with small maximum degree
Let G be a graph on n vertices with maximum degree ∆. We use the Lovász local lemma to show the following two results about colourings χ of the edges of the complete graph Kn. If for each vertex v of Kn the colouring χ assigns each colour to at most (n − 2)/(22.4∆2) edges emanating from v, then there is a copy of G in Kn which is properly edge-coloured by χ. This improves on a result of Alon, J...
متن کاملDALD:-Distributed-Asynchronous-Local-Decontamination Algorithm in Arbitrary Graphs
Network environments always can be invaded by intruder agents. In networks where nodes are performing some computations, intruder agents might contaminate some nodes. Therefore, problem of decontaminating a network infected by intruder agents is one of the major problems in these networks. In this paper, we present a distributed asynchronous local algorithm for decontaminating a network. In mos...
متن کاملMETA-HEURISTIC ALGORITHMS FOR MINIMIZING THE NUMBER OF CROSSING OF COMPLETE GRAPHS AND COMPLETE BIPARTITE GRAPHS
The minimum crossing number problem is among the oldest and most fundamental problems arising in the area of automatic graph drawing. In this paper, eight population-based meta-heuristic algorithms are utilized to tackle the minimum crossing number problem for two special types of graphs, namely complete graphs and complete bipartite graphs. A 2-page book drawing representation is employed for ...
متن کاملRainbow Hamilton cycles in random regular graphs
A rainbow subgraph of an edge-coloured graph has all edges of distinct colours. A random d-regular graph with d even, and having edges coloured randomly with d/2 of each of n colours, has a rainbow Hamilton cycle with probability tending to 1 as n→∞, for fixed d ≥ 8.
متن کاملAcyclic Colorings and Triangulations of Weakly Chordal Graphs
An acyclic coloring of a graph is a proper vertex coloring without bichromatic cycles. We show that the acyclic colorings of any weakly chordal graph G correspond to the proper colorings of triangulations of G. As a consequence, we obtain polynomial-time algorithms for the acyclic coloring problem and the perfect phylogeny problem on the class of weakly chordal graphs. Our results also imply li...
